While the Avi Vest product increases your odds against being buried in an avalanche, there’s no better protection than common sense and adherence to a few key guidelines:

  1. Always carry an avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe with your Avi Vest.
  2. Avoid being caught in an avalanche! If you are caught, immediately pull your rip cord and try to ride out of the avalanche.
  3. Always ride one at a time and watch each other when you are in avalanche terrain
  4. Check your avalanche advisory and ask pros about conditions in the backcountry.
  5. Take a course, read, and learn as much as you can.
  6. Don't go into the backcountry alone. You might need your buddy for help.
  7. Be wary around avalanche starting zones; ski cutting is good form.
  8. Try to avoid terrain traps and exposure to cliffs or trees.
